Why Is Calcium Hardness Important in a Hot Tub?
Calcium hardness measures the amount of dissolved calcium in your spa water. Maintaining an appropriate level is important because water that is too soft or too hard can create problems.
If calcium hardness is too low, water can become more aggressive toward certain surfaces and equipment. If it becomes too high, calcium can contribute to scale and cloudy water. The goal isn't simply to add calcium—it's to keep calcium hardness within the proper range.

How Do You Use E-Z Spa Cal?
Always test the calcium hardness before adding E-Z Spa Cal. If the level is low, add the amount specified on the product label for your spa's water capacity and the amount of increase required.
As an example, available E-Z Spa directions indicate that raising calcium hardness by approximately 10 ppm requires 0.5 oz. per 250 gallons, while a 50 ppm increase requires approximately 2.5 oz. per 250 gallons.
Because the correct amount depends on both your spa's volume and its current calcium hardness, testing first prevents unnecessary treatment. If your calcium hardness is already high, do not add E-Z Spa Cal.
